Feline herpesvirus (FHV-1) primarily affects a cat’s upper respiratory system. Common symptoms include:
- Sneezing and nasal discharge.
- Eye discharge, which can be clear or pus-like.
- Conjunctivitis (pink eye) and squinting.
- Lethargy and loss of appetite.
- Fever and drooling in more severe cases¹²⁴.
The virus can also cause keratitis, an inflammation of the cornea, and FHV-associated dermatitis, leading to ulcers around the nose and mouth¹. Symptoms typically last 10-20 days, but the virus can remain dormant and reactivate during stress or illness².
If you notice these symptoms in your cat, it’s best to consult a veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Ringbio’s Feline Herpesvirus IgG Antibody ELISA Kit is used to detect herpesvirus specific antibodies in feline serum and plasma, moreover, it can be used in the supervision of FHV vaccine antibody levels in cats. This kit is ready to be used for lab staff, simply and accurately.
