Key facts about FPV, FHV and FCV

Here are some key facts about Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV), Feline Herpesvirus (FHV), and Feline Calicivirus (FCV):

Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV)

  • Also known as: Feline Distemper or Feline Parvovirus.
  • Symptoms: Severe gastrointestinal distress, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and a high fever.
  • Transmission: Highly contagious, spread through direct contact with infected cats or contaminated environments.
  • Prevention: Vaccination is highly effective and considered essential for all cats¹.

Feline Herpesvirus (FHV)

  • Also known as: Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR).
  • Symptoms: Upper respiratory issues, sneezing, nasal discharge, conjunctivitis, and eye ulcers.
  • Transmission: Spread through direct contact with infected cats, their secretions, or contaminated objects.
  • Prevention: Vaccination reduces the severity of symptoms but does not completely prevent infection².

Feline Calicivirus (FCV)

  • Symptoms: Oral ulcers, respiratory issues, fever, and lameness. Some strains can cause severe systemic disease.
  • Transmission: Spread through direct contact with infected cats or contaminated environments.
  • Prevention: Vaccination helps reduce the severity of the disease and is recommended for all cats³.

Ringbio’s FPV, FHV and FCV IgG Antibody ELISA kit is based on indirect enzyme linked immunosorbentassay to detect the specific antibodies of the 3 virus in cat serum or plasma. The result is specific and accurate, and can be used to help the vet to monitor the vaccine antibody level in pets.
