Canine Adenovirus (CAV) refers to a group of viruses that affect dogs. Among them, Canine Adenovirus Type 1 (CAV-1) causes infectious canine hepatitis, a serious liver disease. Symptoms include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and a milky appearance in the eyes. Young dogs are at higher risk, and the virus spreads through urine, nasal, and eye discharges. In severe cases, it can lead to abdominal pain, edema, and jaundice, often proving fatal¹. Canine Adenovirus Type 2 (CAV-2) causes infectious tracheobronchitis, commonly known as “kennel cough”². Vaccination is crucial: CAV-2 vaccines protect against CAV-1, and regular booster shots are recommended⁵.
